Another Example of Crossing the Net Line

This morning, the NPR news site reported the death of a man whose name was mentioned on an online molester registry. It seems that a father of a 6 year old son murdered the registered molester just to prevent future molestation.

This tragic example brings to point other examples where names are mentioned online and others create judgement towards the person. In this case, the source of the information was a state registry. What about the cases where the source is not respectable? Even if the source was from a governmental agency, sometimes the accuracy of the information could be outdated or not relevant.

The purpose behind such registry is to educate and increase the awareness for parents and concerned citizens of registered child molesters living in neighborhood. The purpose is not to increase crimes against such molestor. The law is there to provide justice. Hopefully...

So what do you think?

We as a society have drawn lines about who we help and how much we help them. Anyone twisted enough to molest kids needs to be under serious psychiatric care and close monitoring. Simply putting their names on a website is our way of abdicating our responsibilities to do what is needed to protect kids and keep the psychos under close watch. This is the messy result.
